The first balloon was invented in 1709. Now, balloons are used as an airship design, in celebrations, and even in medicine! Military use of the balloon first occurred in the American Civil War in map-making and in signaling armies. Now, hot air balloons can be seen and ridden during parades and festivals.

Tattooing is a form of body modification. Many cultures all over the world practice tattooing. The first tattoos were found on ancient Egyptian mummies and on "Otzi the Iceman," who was found frozen in the Italian Alps!
3. Committee
Clue: A group of people.
Committees are often formed when a group of people need to make a decision. They can range in size from just a few people to a very large group of people. The most well-known examples of committees are in government where committees are delegated to decide on legislation.
4. Keenness
Clue: Acuteness or acumen.
Keenness is a synonym for acuteness, acumen, brilliance, cleverness, and other similar words. The word 'keen' comes from an Old English word that means brave.

I guessed cooee after looking at the hint...even though I don't think I've heard the word before! Fun teaser! Thanks!
This teaser must have taken a long time to come up with, as well as a lot of thought. Well done. Thanks for posting.
I thought of committee for #3, but I was thinking of the double m's and thought, "Nope, can't be it: there aren't double letters after 'm'". Silly me, for getting about the double t's and e's.

I got tattoo and cooee. Can't believe I didn't think of balloon! Great teaser!
Fun!
Fun teaser - and nice to see a lot of happy faces and positive comments!
Happy Holidays!!
Happy Holidays!!
Yay! I got them all!
Sorry but the Australian bonus one makes little sense. The clue is totally random apart from being Australian. Imagine using three random American creatures as a clue to an American word:
prairie dog, condor, grizzly!
Mississippi
The other clues actually hinted at their answers.

Crikey, the bonus one was tough!
Nice teaser
Nice teaser
Nice n easy teaser for us Ausies, thanks!
The bonus wasn't that hard. There were 3 blanks. So the last blank had to be an e and the other two blanks had to be a double vowel.
Fun, easy and entertaining teaser; I got the first 4 very quickly and "cooee" with the hint.
