What about e? That's less letters than Pi.
But then, Why use two letters to spell PI when the greeks do it with only one? ∏

I think the hint was a different puzzle in itself and far more complicated.
what is e?
There are two main logarithim bases that are used in mathematics. LOG (log base 10), and natural log, ln (log base e). To see the value of e, open up the Windows calculator (making sure you are in scientific mode), type in the number "1", check the "inverse" box, and click on "ln". This will give you the value of e. It's 2.71828....
I like the idea behind this teaser, but the problem is that there are tons of numbers that are expressed by one letter. Pi just happens to be famous because it is used so often. For example, if you ask a Chemical Engineer what the value of "R" is, he'll say 8.314 Joules per mole per Kelvin. It's exactly the same idea as Pi (one symbol used to express a long number), but it's just not as well known.

...yes, I am a math geek. Sue me.
it really should've been under trick... good anyways
Pi is not actually a number it's a greek letter, used as a mathmatical symbol.
I thought it was
1.00 = one
2.00 = two
6.00 = six etc.

22/7 is another approx.
clever hint!
I agree with pachacutec
e is a transcendental number like pi. It is the number of dollars you get when you invest $1 for 1 year at 100% interest compounded instantaneously over the whole year, That is not weekly, not daily, not hourly etc but allowing the number of increments to approach infinity.
So $1 invested annually returns $2
$1 compounded every 6 months returns $2.25
And so on.
No matter how short the time period, the maximum your $1 will grow to is $2.71
e = 2,7183......
And so I agree that the answer is incorrect.
