teen_wiz. a student from Canada celebrated her birthday, yesterday, April 7th. She has been a Braingle member since January 1, 2006, so she is passing her 10 year membership mark. Her byline simply states Aww...Darcy... Am sure she knows what that means. She likes being in a band, dancing, eating oatmeal chocolate chip cookie dough, and simply being all around awesome. You go girl!

April 7th in History:

In 1862, Union forces led by Gen. Ulysses S. Grant defeated the Confederates at the Battle of Shiloh in Tennessee.

In 1927, the image and voice of Commerce Secretary Herbert Hoover were transmitted live from Washington to New York in the first successful long-distance demonstration of television.

In 1949, the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "South Pacific" opened on Broadway.

In 1953, the U.N. General Assembly ratified Dag Hammarskjold (dahg HAWM'-ahr-shoold) of Sweden as the new secretary-general, succeeding Trygve Lie (TRIHG'-vuh lee) of Norway.

In 1978, President Jimmy Carter announced he was deferring development of the neutron bomb, a high-radiation weapon.

Ten years ago: Mounir el-Motassadeq (moo-neer ehl mah-tuh-SAD'-uhk), convicted of involvement in the 9/11 attacks, was freed less than 2½ years into a 15-year sentence after a court in Hamburg, Germany, ruled the evidence was too weak to hold him pending a retrial. (El-Motassadeq was convicted in 2006 of being a member of a terrorist group and an accessory to the murder of the 246 passengers and crew on the four jetliners used in the attacks on New York and Washington; he was sentenced to 15 years in prison, the maximum penalty possible under German law.)

Five years ago: President Barack Obama capped his eight-day European trip by addressing college students in Istanbul, Turkey; he then made an unannounced trip to Baghdad, where he visited with U.S. troops and Iraqi officials. Vermont became the fourth state (after Connecticut, Massachusetts and Iowa) to legalize same-sex marriage

One year ago: A fierce battle between U.S.-backed Afghan forces and Taliban militants in a remote corner of eastern Afghanistan left nearly 20 people dead, including 11 Afghan children killed in an airstrike and an American civilian adviser.

He ran unsuccessful bids for the Democratic nomination for President in 1976, 1980, and 1992. There was a 28 year gap between his second and third term as Governor and though, when he was first elected Governor in 1975 he was one of the youngest Governors in the state's history, by the time he was re-elected in 2011 he had become the state's oldest Governor ever. bluegrass, thanks for remembering Snowy, but her birthday is honestly on the 5th - look back a bit and you will see her explanation.

So OK folks, I have been overly stressed and busy as I am preparing to move in with my youngest daughter after two and a half years with my middle daughter and her sons. Sorry, I have let I believe 3 birthdays slip by me. I did work on MadAde's birthday wishes only to have my computer wipe everything out, and then I got hit by a hacker. So that is my story and I am sticking to it. Seriously I do apologize and hope to soon be all set up at my new address and back in the business to greeting as many birthday celebrants as I can.

All right, I am wishing MadAde a belated wish on the 13th, kvthegreat celebrated on the 14th, and torgortega, s physician from Newberry, Michigan on the 15th. Hope everyone had a great party! For all of you, here is my prettiest card.

Well after all the stress of getting packed, moving, and trying to get unpacked, I slept most of my birthday, just to get some much needed rest. I do believe it was probably the best thing for me. And since my daughter decorates cake for a living and I really did not need the extra sugar, I settled for an ice cream cone rather than a big fancy cake. I do want to thank people for their many wishes and beautiful cards. But enough about me.

There were three others who had a birthday during my absence: Faith511, a student from the US who enjoys volleyball, Twenty One Pilots and History. She has been a member of Braingle since June 6, 2011, and her birthday was on April 20th.

A member since Nov. 27, 2009, scrub88, a high school teacher on the Front Range of the Rockies, celebrated his birthday, April 19th. His interests are traveling, Cowboys, skiing and soccer. Hmmm, Front Range of the Rockies, he could have been my neighbor way back when.

And last, but not least, Katherine24 celebrated her birthday yesterday, April 26th. She says her location is your basement, but if she had lived in Nebraska yesterday, her basement would have been flooded last night, at least it was here where I live. It got really damp around the edges, plus golf ball sized hail. Mother Nature was on a real rampage. Katherine's occupation she states as Otaku and her interests are Anime, manga and adorable things^^. Her byline is a quote by Sebastian Micaelis: Always skillfully manipulate your pieces, that's how you survive. Use any piece within your reach. Even if the bodies of your pawns pile up in front of your throne. Because if the king falls, the game is over.

Just looking back over April and creating the files for the My birthdays - wow it took 15 days in April what it took in four days in May to get four birthdays written in. April showers brought more than May flowers in this case, but mommas will always think of their babies as flowers so I guess it stands to reason we had more babies in May to wish happy birthday to.

Hoping to be back on track and stay healthy so I can do this job properly. Please join me in wishing belated birthdays to Faith511, scrub88 and Katherine24. Am hoping you all had a lovely time celebrating to the hilt!

PEOPLE WHO SHARE YOUR APRIL 30TH BIRTHDAY:

James Murray, 39, rose to fame as a member of the comedy group The Tenderloins. The group launched a TV show on TruTV called Impractical Jokers in 2011. One of the first major highlights for The Tenderloins came when they won a $100,000 prize through a competition on NBC. He has had an amazing success with The Tenderloins alongside Sal Vulcano, Mike Boccio, and Joe Gatto.

Tim McGraw.48, multi-platinum singer, actor, and songwriter who had eleven albums reach #1 on the Country Billboard, including Not a Moment Too Soon. He has pursued acting gigs as well, including in The Kingdom and in the 2015 film Tomorrowland. He starred with Sandra Bullock in the 2009 film The Blind Side. Before the age of eleven, McGraw did not know that his father was Tug McGraw, a famous baseball player.

Jamie Dornan, 33, brought life to the role of The Huntsman in ABC's Once Upon a Time and starred in the film adaptation of the controversial book Fifty Shades of Grey. He had film roles in Marie Antoinette (2006) and Shadows in the Sun (2009) and he had a supporting role in the 2012 television series, The Fall with Gillian Anderson.

Darius McCrary,39, television and film actor who played Eddie Winslow on the TV sitcom, "Family Matters," from 1989 until 1998. He played the role of Scam in the 1987 comic film, "Big Shots." He also was cast in the film, "Mississippi Burning," from 1988. He and Shia LaBeouf both were part of the cast of "Transformers," the 2007 blockbuster.

Ray Parker Jr.,61, singer-songwriter who composed the hit theme song for the film Ghostbusters. His music was used in the paranormal comedy films, Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, both of which starred Bill Murray. He has had many top forty solo hits, including "The Other Woman" and "I Still Can't Get Over Loving You." He was in Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra in the mid-1970s, and he played on 'Maybe Your Baby' by Stevie Wonder.

Others who shared your birthday:

May 1, 1909- Kate Smith, singer

May 1, 1916- Glenn Ford, actor

May 1, 1918- Jack Paar, TV personality

May 1, 1925- Scott Carpenter, astronaut

May 1, 1945 -Rita Coolidge, singer

And last, but not least was Sonny James, 1929 - Feb 22, 2016 (age 86) American country music singer and songwriter who released the 1957 hit song "Young Love," as well as other top ten singles, including "For Rent (One Empty Heart)." He helped launch Marie Osmond's career by producing her first three albums. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1971 and was inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2006.

And now that I have gotten this all written up, I realize that I have used May 1st for the day in history and the people who would have had birthdays, the same as you. I have redone this 4 times because for some reason or other, the program is still acting up and every time I just about get things done, for some reason or other I have to log back into Braingle and have lost everything I had put in. Gosh, a person would think after four times I would have realized that I was using May 1st instead of April 30th, hermygranger123, At this point, I do believe it has something to do with utter frustration. Wishing you the happiest birthday anyhow!

Today is Wednesday, May 6, the 126th day of 2016. There are 240 days left in the year. This is the day that Spuds from Arkansas celebrates his birthday. His occupation is life and school, and his interests are progress in life and school. His byline is "There is no fear without some hope, and no hope without some fear." -Baruch Spinoza

Today's Highlight in History:

On May 6, 1965, after a Rolling Stones concert in Clearwater, Florida, was cut short by rowdy fans, Keith Richards composed the opening guitar riff of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," which he co-wrote with Mick Jagger. (The song was recorded less than a week later, and the single was released in the United States on June 6.)

In 1889, the Paris Exposition formally opened, featuring the just-completed Eiffel Tower.

In 1910, Britain's Edwardian era ended with the death of King Edward VII; he was succeeded by George V.

In 1915, Babe Ruth hit his first major-league home run as a player for the Boston Red Sox. Actor-writer-director Orson Welles was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Political writer and historian Theodore H. White was born in Boston.

In 1935, the Works Progress Administration began operating under an executive order signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

In 1937, the hydrogen-filled German airship Hindenburg burned and crashed in Lakehurst, New Jersey, killing 35 of the 97 people on board and a Navy crewman on the ground.

In 1981, Yale architecture student Maya Ying Lin was named winner of a competition to design the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

In 1994, former Arkansas state worker Paula Jones filed suit against President Bill Clinton, alleging he'd sexually harassed her in 1991. (Jones reached a settlement with Clinton in November 1998.) Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and French President Francois Mitterrand (frahn-SWAH' mee-teh-RAHN') formally opened the Channel Tunnel between their countries.

One year ago: A federal report said that global warming was rapidly affecting the United States in both visible and invisible ways; shortly after the report came out, President Barack Obama used several television weathermen to call for action to curb carbon pollution before it was too late. The Vatican disclosed that over the past decade, it had defrocked 848 priests who raped or molested children and sanctioned another 2,572 with lesser penalties. Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant won his first NBA MVP award.

May 6th brings out the Happy Birthday wishes for our friend and fellow Braingler: Spuds and the other well know people:

Today's Birthdays: Baseball Hall-of-Famer Willie Mays is 84. Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., is 81. Rock singer Bob Seger is 70. Singer Jimmie Dale Gilmore is 70. Gospel singer-comedian Lulu Roman is 69. Actor Alan Dale is 68. Actor Ben Masters is 68. Actor Richard Cox is 67. Actor Gregg Henry is 63. Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair is 62. These three guys were born on May 6th, but have since passed:

Sigmund Freud, 1856 - Sep 23, 1939 (age 83), Father of Modern Psychiatry who was the first to come up with psychiatric concepts such as the unconscious, the Ego, and the Oedipal Complex. He founded psychoanalysis and inspired other psychologists like B.F. Skinner.

Orson Welles, 1915 - Oct 10, 1985 (age 70) Best known for his seminal 1941 film Citizen Kane, which he co-wrote, directed, produced and starred in. The film is widely considered one of the most important films in cinema history. His War of the Worlds radio broadcast during the Mercury Theatre on the Air series became one of the most famous incidents of mass panic in history as many radio listeners believed Welles was reading a shocking news bulletin that featured alien invasions when really he was reciting the H.G. Wells novel The War of the Worlds.

Rubin Carter, 1937 - Apr 20, 2014 (age 76), Boxer known as the Hurricane who was wrongfully convicted for murders he didn't commit. Spuds we hope you have a wonderful birthday full of family, friends and other loved ones and all the blessings of the day.

Today, May 7th, we have two birthday celebrants: Esmeraude07, a collection agent from the Philippines who enjoys logic and brainteasers; and podskichris a self employed man from Florida who is interested in hockey. He also has one of the cutest and funny bylines I have read in quite a while: "a tall man cannot hide in the short grass" The Braingle members all hope you have a very Happy Birthday with loads of cake, lots of presents with your family, friends and other loved ones in attendance. Well it appears that I have missed a couple birthdays again. On the 10th we had a terrific storm here and lost our internet for about half a night, so I did shut down early to prevent any more damage to my computer. Then on the 11th I spent most of the day in the doctor's office, trying to stay out of the hospital again. After a humongous shot in the back side and another 10 days of a powerful antibiotic I was sent home with instructions to drink plenty of fluids and to stay in bed as much as I can stand. I am not very good at staying in bed.

Anyhow our birthday guy on the 10th has not logged in for over 30 days so will simply wish him a late Happy Birthday and hope he will soon join us again. Mepapa lives "on earth" in the United States and has been a Braingle member since Apr 19, 2007. Hope you had a great birthday and will have many more.

Now for the May 11th birthday we have Princess Pickles, a Braingle member since November 17, 2014. She lives in the United States, somewhere over the rainbow. Does that mean somewhere around Kansas?
