If you have reached 500 points, you can now review teasers. Use this topic to post questions or a problem on a teaser you are reviewing if you observe something that might be missed by the Editors. Your assistance to the site by reviewing recently submitted teasers is greatly appreciated by the Editors.

Experienced reviewers with more than 2,000 points may access the "Teasers in Review that have Problems" topic in the High Scorers Forum.

Note: If you think there's something wrong with a teaser which has already been posted on site, you can submit a correction for it by clicking on the link for that purpose on the actual teaser in question.

Welcome to your new role as a teaser reviewer!

You took away the other thread....but here's a teaser that I don't think should be posted.

Teaser #169 "Kittens"

It does not ask a question.....it only makes a statement "What is the mothers name." There's nothing to answer.

#538 "What has roots"

the last line reads "but never grows" and the answer is a mountain.....

But mountains can grow.....as two tectonic plates move together, the mountain grows taller and taller.....

Hi Tehl; Thanks for your input here .. once you have had access to the review process and been on site long enough, you'll have that score up to 2000 and can post over in the High Scorers forum as well, however we appreciate your input here is well .. just be mindful that this is viewable by the entire community and hopefully, the comments here will be constructive and useful to the site and submitter. I'll take a look at the teasers you mentioned. Thanks!

I submitted a teaser in Letter-Equations after searching a little for it.....obviously not enough...I just found it......so my teaser "Stolen Away" is a duplicate....SORRY!

Hi Tehlgnored; In about 150 points you will gain the ability to review teasers and you will understand the main purpose of this topic. I can see that you have discoverd how to comment right on the teasers you have tried and rated. You are right, teaser 169 might be considered flawed because it contains a statement that looks like a question and without a question, it is really not a teaser. This is one of the very first teasers placed on site about three years ago and is really a trick teaser in my view. We have several like this.

The other teaser you referenced is a riddle. Riddles often disguise what they reference to some degree to add extra challenge to guessing their answer. Some poetic freedoms of expression is tolerated with this in mind. Sure mountains are raised in some places and are worn down in others through erosion by the elements but in our short journey of life, they are pretty much unchanged except through cataclysmic events like volcanism or large quakes.

Comments on the teasers are not just for encouragement and appreciation to the submitters but can also be for constructive criticism from your point of view as long as the comments are not just plain negatism. I really cringe when I see comments like "That's just dumb." or "I hated this." on a teaser because it is only an attempt to discourage the submitter. I can see that you are on your way to becoming a teaser reviewer and you can make comment here when needed on teasers that are in review.

Thanks for noting your duplicate. It happens to the best of us and has been recorded on the teaser you referenced.

i have no idea where i can go to look up all the teasers. they tell me what teaser it is a duplicate of, but when i search for it in the teaser box, it doesn't show. (say for instance i type in 555, it doesn't go to that teaser. where do i go?)

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16 God died for the sins of the world. And that includes you.

Hcrabberfballpl (interesting name);
Just below the box where you typed in the number you'll see a blue underlined phrase that says "Advanced Search" which you should click and it will open a window which lists different fields you can search on through the teasers. The bottom box says Teaser ID#. If you put the number in there, it will take you to that teaser. The other boxes can be used to search for specific words in various areas of the puzzles. Try a few experiments and you should get the hang of it. This is the main tool to find out if the teaser you want to submit is already on site. Good luck and I hope that helps!

I don't understand why mountains are considered to have roots. That seems totally confusing and unguessable to me.

I don't quite understand soome of the comments I have seen here recently. When I first came here, I was told that anyone could come to this topic and post constructive comments, etc., about teasers, even though we don't all see them in review, we were still allowed to add comments when we saw something we COULD comment on, like me saying that I don't how mountains have "roots". Now apparently there is a separate topic for reviewers to make comments about teasers in review, which can't be accessed by non-high-scorers.

So, is it not still OK for anyone to come in this topic and if they see something regarding a fact they know or something that they want to question from another comment, post that comment? I understand very well about "constructive " comments and not just negating the submitter. But I wonder if there's a separate topic for reviewers now, is there really any point to non-reviewers posting here anymore? I mean, is this just to let non-reviewers feel like they're doing something? LOL? but seriously...

Hi Shawneeo; Comments here are reviewed regularly and taken into consideration by the editors which is the same as can be said for the reviewer topic in the High Scorers forum.

Any change is not perfect, but in this case it was felt by the editors that the benefits outweighed any negative impact from moving the main teasers in review topic to the High Scorers forum. If reviewers are active here and rating teasers, they will soon have access to the High Scorers forum. This topic was created so that those who are reviewing newly submitted teasers but have not gained access to the High Scorers forum will still have the same opportunity for comments for the editors.

Each teaser already on site allows for comments on the teaser to the submitters by all who want to add encouragement and constructive comment. This whole forum here is available for appropriate use by all users as are all our public forums. This topic and the one in Hi Scorers forum is and has always been primarily a topic where comments are left for the editors or other reviewers by users who are actively reviewing new teasers. It is not intended to be a discussion thread or even a question and answer thread for teasers already on site. There are many locations for this type of discussion including some excellent talk boxes created just for that purpose. You might want to request membership in some of them.

So, this thread is not really for non-reviewers. Non-reviewers are given the opportunity to participate constructively in a variety of locations on this site. Reviewer's comments here are just as appreciated and are taken into consideration by the editors. I think there is plenty to do on this site and there is no need to create artificial topics.

Root is a common word for base and can also mean the underground portion of plants. Many English words have multiple meanings depending on their context, so a Mountain's roots is merely a reference to its base. If you want to have a discussion about the many meanings of words, you could start a topic in General Discussion on this subject which is intended for this type of open discussion. Let this topic function as it was intended.

I hope this clears up some of your mis-givings and helps you participate constructively on site. I hope you can continue to enjoy and help others enjoy this site.

(Note to MarcM: Thanks. Your wire solutions were passed on to the submitter to help him correct his teaser.)

I am actually aware that many English words have multiple meanings, and my intention was not to discuss the multiple meanings of words. I was saying that I never hear anyone referring to the base of a mountain as its root, so if its in a teaser I think it may be confusing.

Thanks for replying, but what you are saying, that this is not for non-reviewers, is a direct contradiction to what I was told by another editor when I specifically asked about it before. But since you seem to be "in charge" of this topic now, I will not contribute any comments about anything I see in here. I am also aware that I can comment on the teasers themselves, and I do that every day. If you don't understand what I'm saying about what I was told some months ago about this topic, I will PM the PM that was sent to me telling me to feel free to post here, but like I said: I will not do so now since its apparently become more exclusive now.

thanks again for your answer.

Thank you for understanding Shawneeo. This is a brand new topic area and it is not at all about being exclusive, but it is about using it for its intended purpose which I hope is fairly clearly described at the beginning of the topic. As far as being in charge, there are also moderators for this forum which is still completely open to you for comments and general teaser discussion. If you are looking for in depth discussion on the merits of a particular teaser, or have questions about creating your own teasers, please feel free to open a topic for that purpose in this forum and hopefully you will get better participation than what you would receive in this topic.

Hopefully, as others read our discussion they too can have a better understanding of the purpose of this topic. Thanks again and I hope you continue to enjoy the Braingle site and all it has to offer.

#753 "No Repeating Letters"

The word in the answer "uncopyrightable" is not a word according to www.dictionary.com. It must be hyphenated as in un-copyrightable, and therefore the answer to this teaser is incorrect.
