Brain Teasers
The ATM Accident
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
I drove up to a drive-thru Automated Teller Machine (ATM, bank machine). I did NOT hit anything, and no crazy person with a bat attacked my car, yet when I drove away, my car had sustained $1000 damage. What happened?
Hint
ATM's are serviced in a peculiar way.Answer
When an ATM machine is serviced, part of the machine moves out (in this case, out from the wall), allowing the service personnel access to the inner part of the machine. The service person wasn't particularly observant, and "opened" the machine while I was trying to use it, denting my car and tearing the side mirror almost completely off, thus causing $1000 worth of damage.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer
