The Sunsets
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
On a road trip to the Rocky Mountains, the Smith family experienced something interesting. They live in Montana, so they traveled westward on a day long trip there, where they would stay for 5 days and then travel back home. On their trip they decided that they would watch the sunset each night. So, they did! But on one of the nights, their sunset watching was especially fun. This is because they watched the sun as it set three times! How did this work?
Hint
Think about the trip... where are they going to?Answer
On the first day of the trip they were still driving at night. When the sun started to set, because they were travelling westward, it would set in front of them and then the car would drive to a higher altitude in the mountains. That way, they were able to watch it set twice more.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer
