Brain Teasers
Caesar Box
Cryptography
In Cryptography teasers, a phrase or expressions has been encoded in some way (frequently by replacing letters with other letters). You need to figure out the encoding method and then decode the message to find the answer.Cryptography
What does this message say?
G T Y O R J O T E O U I A B G T
G T Y O R J O T E O U I A B G T
Hint
Count the letters and try splitting the letters up into groups.Answer
"Great Job You Got It"This type of code is known as a Caesar Box (Julius Caesar was the first to write codes this way.) To decipher the message, simply divide the code into four groups of four (you can also divide them into groups such as 5 groups of 5 or 6 groups of 6 depending on the number of letters in the phrase), and rearrange them vertically like this...
G T Y O
R J O T
E O U I
A B G T
Then you read vertically column by column.

I like this puzzle. These box puzzles are my favorite. Good job!
Clever
Wonderful!
good puzzle... Dan Brown rocks
i got it right!!!!! after the hint anyway but it was still good. Great Job You Got It! Good Teaser
i think that it was good but i got it wrong cause i did not feel like putting it in to groups
LOL
I never look at the hint unless I'm telling it to someone else.
So I didn't get it. I've done that kind of code before, but this was HARD. I think I'll look at hints now.

very good teaser
gee, that was easy. it's similar to one in dan brown's site.
huh that was odd
I could've gotten that one and once I saw the groups of letters in the answer I knew right away what the answer was!!
TKRHHSTIAFHNNOET!! So did a piece of paper .. Would this be a letter strip tease?
Liked the lesson in the answer too, a very complete package!!
Great job! I almost got this one. I saw the words great, you, and job but I couldn't figure the rest out. Very clever!
Go at it.
Get your Job.
Get your Job.
This was very difficult for me. I checked the hint but didn't catch on. If it had said it was an annogram I might have gotten it. Yea, right! I'm new to the board which is no excuse for being a half wit. I think I'll get some of theese as I go along. Although I was clueless this was a good one.
good 1
I just read Dan Brown's book "Digital Fortress" and that was how I solved it... good one!
Very good! I love codes and encryptions...this is great!
clever. learn something every day.
love love love
love love love
Wonderful! That was very clever!
this stuff is hard for me.
Good one.
Man, encryptions encrypt my brain cells. I have no patience I guess. Good one, though. I learned something.
Very interesting fact.. I didn't get it....... I think your hint needs to be a little clearer........
t' was hard dude
Oh I dod not know what a ceasar box was .. I just had a moment...
Sry typo did*
ok that was(not to be mean or anyghitn) that was wiersd

the hint gave it away, but it was a good teaser. I've done ones like this before, but not by putting the letters in columns. Nice with the history fact though.
That was hard! I couldn't even get it with the clue! I'm not good at this caesar stuff!
If I hadn't read Dan Brown, I would have been stuck. WTG
Great teaser!!
Loved it!!
nice
It was really fun, I rated it medium because I think that the Ceaser Box is easy if you know how to do it, but really hard if you don't. Good Choice!!
LOL
GREAT cryptograph! Very clever.
Didn't know about the Caesar Box. So, I learned something today.
Thanks!!

Thanks!!
We learned in school about Cezar's Box, so it was quite simple (i loved the message though, made me feel proud of myself in the end Keep up the good job and the teasers coming
That was a good one, got it only after the hint though, but great ! Never heard of Caesar's box, btw so that was another additional knowledge gained. Great one !
I got it after 30 seconds looking at the letters
Thanks.. The first hard teaser that I got it rite
Thanks.. The first hard teaser that I got it rite
The title really gave it away. It was really easy, considering that I know Caesar Box from reading Digital Fortress by Dan Brown.
Wow, very clever! I learnt something new today! Excellent teaser! *Adds to favourites*.
Agree with Brainster's comment except I didn't get it at all. Good bit of information, never previously heard of Caeser's Box Code. Thanks for posting.
If you never heard of Ceaser's Box Code, it was too hard. However, if you were familiar with Ceaser's Box Code, it was too easy. Thanks anyway
Bradon said it all. I love codes, but this one stumped me. I really enjoyed it even though I didn't get it.
never heard of a caesar box. didn't get it.
Well, well, well...Caesar Box.... ?Cracker Jack Box? Jack in the Box?Toy Box? Voice Box?

THIS TYPE OF CAESAR WERE USEB BY MACHINE NAMED ENIGMA TO ENCRYPT CODES,
IT ALSO IDENTIFIED IT DECRYPT IT QUICKLY ,
BUT NOW A DAYS ,
THIS CAESAR BOX IS LESS USED.

Beat me - I should have persevered once I knew to play around with 16 ... Fun teaser; thanks!
good job copying off wikihow.com....
nice one but sorry this isnt Caesars code, this is an old greek code used in times of war. Caesars code is meant to replace each letter of the alphabet with the one that is x places after it, were x at the time that caesar used it was 5.

That's a ceaser cipher. A ceaser box is different.
This is an amazing teaser... clever!
Dear HARDIPATEL,
Your Caps Lock key is broken. We'd all appreciate it if you got it fixed, so you could stop yelling. Thanks.
About the teaser: I got it with the hint. Thanks, it was a lot of fun!

i liked this one! im not an expert code breaker...(yet) but im workin on it. I coudn't figure this one out though. oh well. Great Teaser!
I simply loved it. I am new to cryptography and dont know much about encoding-decoding.It took me almost 30 minutes to figure this out and really the answer is so rewarding.I didnt use the hint and was about to hit the answer but gave it a last thought and considered the title ' caesar box' and i figured it out.its going to my favourites.thanks
I'm generally not very good with cryptos ... but I always give them a go just for the fun and exercise.
TOUGH COOKIE !!!!
Maybe I can learn this stuff.
Anyway ... gave it a top ranking for FUN !!

Did not understand it or the clue so it was not a favorite. Nice to know there are so many smart people out there that can figure these things out and good to know there are some like me.
I have never seen this type of code before so did not have a clue how to do it.
Question for those who are familiar with it, how do you deal with a phrase that does not contain a square number of letters? Do you use "fillers" or can that phrase not be encrypted into this code?

I had no clue.
Rather eat soup with a fork than figure that one out.

That IS a Caesar box also known as a columnar transpostion cipher. A Caesar cipher is a different code where letters are simply switched down the alphabet.
By the way BBO2, I went to Kowloon last night and ordered a bowl of carrots for you, but you never showed. SHAME SHAME
no .... NO .....
the dog ate my homework !!
(uh-oh .... WRONG excuse)

(uh-oh .... WRONG excuse)
But I DID send a message .....
You didn't get it ??
I said "Give it to the person trying to eat the Bazo soup with a fork" ....
(you HAVE to eat Bazo with a fork ... 'cause it's still moving)

Never heard of this kind of code. It stumped me.
Had to look at the hint. First time I do one this type. Once I counted 16, splitting into four came to mind right away.
I do not think a good teaser is one that very few people know about things like the Caeser code. It was surprising to see that those people who usually know most everything, did not even know this one and admitted they did not even try. In my opinion this was very unfair and wrong. Sorry!
Huh! What a fun way to write a code!
I was stumped by this puzzle, but I love it! So simple, yet so effective. Interesting trivia that this mechanism was used by Caesar. Terrific puzzle!
