Brain Teasers
Lazy Sam the Journalist Part 1
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
One day Sam, a journalist, got a tip that off the coast of France there was an air raid. He also heard that 7 ships sunk during the air raid. So Sam, who was lazy, wrote an article on 7 ships being attacked and sunk by enemy airplanes. The next day Sam was fired for publishing a false article. However, Sam's source was credible. Why was he fired?
Hint
In an air raid certain precautions must be taken.Answer
During the air raid a blackout was called. Since it was on the coast the lighthouse had to be turned off. With no light the 7 ships crashed.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

This would have been great if teh answer was worded differently. The final question was, "Why did he get fired," and you answered that two sentences before. To me that is the answer. I didn't really feel prompted to have to ask anything which is what situation teasers are all about.
for example, "How could Sam be fired for publishing a false article even though is source was credible?"
I guess he could go to work for the Enquirer! I liked your thinking on this.. don't jump to conclusions! ..the sunk ships could have been enemy invaders sunk by the shore batteries too.. Did D-Day rememberance trigger this?.. good job!
I thought the answer was that their enemy didn't sink their ships, but they sank enemy ships. Bah... Yours was good though.
Got this one but I liked it alot.
It may be just me, but why would you turn on the light house during the day?
The teaser clearly says "one day" at the start.
Sam was fired for sloppy journalism, much like others this past year.

The one dy simply ment that that was when he got the tip not when it happened
Vikingboy, lighthouses are on all the time because they are also helpful in fog as well as in the darkness.
Great Teaser btw!
Great Teaser btw!
Actually, dewdrop, many lighthouses do shut down during the day. They're expensive to run, and they do get turned off during daylight hours. The one here on Lake Superior does not run on sunny days!
Anyway, it was a joke, and it still holds water, no pun intended. The teaser said one day, and the light house would not come into play during the day.

Why isn't this one also labelled 'LSTJ' like the others? It was fun! And I would love to know the name of the paper where LS works! Cos it's fun to get fired and rehired like this!
This was the first one and i didn't know it would be a series
Cool! I see you changed the name too! I like reading this series, it's really interesting!
These are really fun! Sam is pretty lucky.
