Brain Teasers
What Lies Between
Riddle
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.Riddle
Sometimes this area is visible,
But more often than not it's intangible.
Countries have disputed these spaces,
Drawn treaties to dictate their extent.
Some people are said to have none,
Not knowing where to find them.
They can be found in nature,
Where water meets with land.
It is also a peak of Nevada,
The highest in that land.
So find me now if you can,
In the place between the beginning and the end.

Answer
BoundariesBoundary lines are and have been areas of dispute in countries for hundreds of years. Sometimes boundaries are marked out with walls and fences, other times they are assumed according to tradition and law.
People who have no personal boundaries are said to be very free spirits, while people with very close personal boundaries are sometimes thought of as stuck up or prudish.
Boundaries in nature are called ecosystem boundaries. An example of this is where a lake meets with the land to form a marsh, or wetland.
The peak in Nevada is called Boundary Peak. It is located in the southwestern portion of Nevada in the White Mountains. It is the highest point in Nevada, reaching a height of 13,140 feet.

AWESOME Princess!!! Very well-written and thought out!!! (I got it too.... yay!!)
Very well written. Enjoyed it, fun teaser.
Excellent teaser!
Great teaser, it was easy but well done!
Easy but neat!
Well done. Hope to see more...
Who'da thunk it? Not me. I was thinking of a shoreline (right kind of idea, but no cigar)
Fun! Fun! Fun!
Relatively easy, but well written.
GR8 teaser. Nicely written. We have a county boundary where I grew up that runs right through a house.
Impressive. I really like. If I would of learned boundaries this I would of had more fun in surveying class, learned something and it would of stayed in my head. Good learning example.
5 CLUES, WHY NOT 10 OR 20?
Got it! It was easy (all except the clue about the peak in Nevada, which puzzled me because I knew nothing of it), but well done and fun.
IMURRAY never seems to have them for insults or capital letters. There are two more clues for you. and thanks Princess
Well written, although the answer was very easy.
And to all you Doehead haters, I do acknowledge the decent ones.
And to all you Doehead haters, I do acknowledge the decent ones.
I got it when info turned to people.
Very interesting reading, too. Thanks!
Very interesting reading, too. Thanks!
Good comment, builder.
Two words, very NICE!!!
Very well written! I like this one a lot!
Doehead, even when you do "acknowledge the decent ones" it always seems to be a backhanded complement that includes a veiled insult. For instance, in the past, you have made it clear that easy teasers are not worth your time. So to say that it was "Well written, although the answer was very easy," seems like a negative comment from you.
P.S. Just the way I read it. I am not a "doehead hater", just an observer.

Again, EEEEEEEEEEASY!!!!!!
Quite easy, but I enjoyed it.
got it after 2 lines!
I did not get it so I do not figure it was easy and how many people know about the Nevada peak? That did not help! Sorry! just my opinion.
Countries have disputed these spaces,
Drawn treaties to dictate their extent.
"
That gave it away for me.

That gave it away for me.
Got it!
"Countries have disputed these spaces," got me to borders but then the part about some people having none gave me the right answer.
not too hard, but a good teaser nonetheless, I didn't know the name of the mountain in Nevada, but I was able to get it with the rest anyway.
Hiya, gang. I'm BACK !!!
(didja miss me?)
This is a great riddle. A couple were difficult, but the ecosystem one nailed it for me. This "boundary" is actually called an "ecotone" and is the "edge effect" between two adjacent ecosystems. The marsh was a good example.
And .. a couple girlfriends and I have actually hiked Boundary Peak. I say "hiked" because we stayed on the trail and didn't go "free-climbing" to the peak. Lovely place.

The reason for my one-month's absence is because of a deal I struck with one of the commenters, here. I promised her I would "stay away" for 30 days to see if my "presence" (or lack, thereof) would affect the number of commenters on the TOTD.
Apparently, it did not, ... the number remained about the same (avg; between 4-7 daily).
And ... so it goes....

What I've been talking about actually, though, has been the paucity of comments on the newly listed teasers.
Here's a report on the last ten. Titles and #'s are so you can check for my accuracy and thus belay any hysteria concerning my intentions.
The last item listed is the number of comments for each.

"Chain Letters 11", 50497, Jan 23 - 00
"Perfect Decagon?", 50491, Jan 20 - 06
"Change a Letter", 50490, Jan 20 - 00
"Some Say I'm Not Fair", 50487, Jan 20 - 01
"Anagram Dictionary 3", 50485, Jan 06 - 01
"Words With LF", 50486, Dec 27 - 02

"Model Modification 4", 50482, Nov 24 - 05
"Delete a Letter 27", 50479, Nov 21 - 01
I shall continue this report - periodically - or until I am censured for doing so ... if that is the only result.

Nicely written, but too many clues, negating any challenge!
