Family Sport
Riddle
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.Riddle
Three brothers share a family sport:
A non-stop marathon
The oldest one is fat and short
And trudges slowly on
The middle brother's tall and slim
And keeps a steady pace
The youngest runs just like the wind,
Speeding through the race
"He's young in years, we let him run,"
The other brothers say
"'Cause though he's surely number one,
He's second, in a way."

LOL! Great teaser!!!
"He's young in years, we let him run,"
The other brothers say
"'Cause though he's surely number one,
He's second, in a way."
And I say:
"GREAT TEASER! NUMBER 1!!!"

I love this one *favourites*

Fun and clever! I love the "pun" using the word "second"! Going into my faves!
For some reason, I found it easy... the non-stop and the second gave it away.
I don't know where brothers comes into the logic.
Fantastic, I loved it
Great job there Cam. Nicely written. More please
Very clever. I didn't get it, but it sure makes sense after seeing the answer.
Good job on this one! I got it right and thought it was cleverly written.
this is one of the best teasers I have read in a long time....good job
excellent teaser...i thought he was named after their father which would make him a "second" (commonly known as Jr.) stupid me...keep 'em coming
Great teaser--I think it is one of the best
I agree with the above praises. Beautifully done.
Could have been a clever riddle, but there was no explanation of what we're solving so I'm quite disappointed. Where did it say to explain what the 3 brothers represented, versus why the youngest could be considered "second".
Wow!! Excellent teaser - did you write it yourself? Well done! Thanks!
Excellent teaser! Well written and concise.
I found this one to be rather easy but not so much so as to make it a bore.

How about George W. Bush as the answer. 3 brothers. second to his dad...
Good teaser, grilled cheese (cam?). The answer came to me in a second. It's nice to get one quicklly, rather than in minutes or hours, or never.
Need more coffee, nice one, would have never guessed it though!!
Huhh???? It passed me by
I didn't get the riddle.
but it was obvious after reading
answer.
I think too one of the best in a
while

Clever
Very good ! I didn't understand the title, Family Sport. But it was a great puzzle, even though I had no clue.
Good one!
Brilliant teaser!
Great teaser! How can people not understand this? They're brothers because they're all closely related, living in the same area, joined together, etc. The youngest is "second" because he's the second hand.
I had to read it twice, but I got it. It was really fun and it took a bit of thinking so I absolutely loved it! Good job.
I love it!
Great teaser.
Great teaser.
very good...I happened to get this one, but that's not to say it was easy as I am a genius!
Great one Grilledcheese! You have some of my favorites on the site! Really well written!
absolutely marvelous!
Thought it was very clever, seemed very forthright to me...kudos
That was very good. I liked that one. It took me a few minutes but I got it. Thanks for the teaser.

Beautiful. Simple and, yet, fun. One of the best around. Congratulations!
GREAT TEASER!!! you got me... was no-where near the answer!
really GREAT teaser! Took some thinking, but was not too obscure!
I got it the very "second" I read it
Great but ambigous.
I couldn't figure out what the question was for a bit.

Loved it--the rhyme was perfect too.
HAHA!
Great! That one got me stumped until I read the answer...and even then I had to re-read the teaser. Poor sleep-deprived me. I'm definitely gonna check out your other teasers. Nice one!

You know why it's hard to find the answer? Because the bloke forgot to ask the question...I'm sorry, did I miss the question? Good rhyme, but the only way I was able to figure out the question...was to look at the answer!!
That was an awesome riddle Cameron! I didn't understand what it was asking of me though! haha
But when I saw the answer I was like oooh. haha
VERY good.

Loved it... I got it right off, but I think it was just a fluke that my mind went ehre. Well done!
Very good
How are they 'oldest', 'middle' and 'youngest'? Aren't they all the same age? Actually, if you want to get really technical about it, from the beginning of time seconds have been around before hours have; 3599 of them actually.
Terrific puzzle!
I didn't get it, but once I saw the answer I realized how very clever it was!
Thanks for a good one - well done!

As I recall what I learned about the history of clockmaking, the earliest clocks had only an hour hand. Minute hands came along some centuries later, followed by second hands as a more recent innovation.

I enjoyed this teaser immensely, especially the getting it part!! The first time I read it, I also thought, "The question's missing!" Next time through, the youngest going fastest but also second led me to the clock and then the other descriptions fell into place! Loved it! Congrats, grilled cheese!
OK, that makes a little more sense then. Thanks Talanpoe!
ummm.....where's the riddle? this is a poem. i also don't understand why the hands of the clock have different ages? a nice poem, but a terrible riddle.
I thought we were guessing the sport, since that was in the title. A question would have really helped, i.e., Who are we?
I like the riddle overall. It was well written and doesn't have a dozen different answers. Though the answer is obvious once you know it, that in my mind is a hallmark of a good riddle.

Wandering Goat, explained the idea of this Teaser in such simple terms that this Teaser is quite brilliant and funny. I like Teaser like this one. I didn't get the answer, but its nice to see that so many did get the correct answer. My answer was Way off. I thought he came in second because running like the wind only gives you first place when there is Wind, but without the Wind, as the Air is calm, then he gets second place. So what, I told you I was way off. By the way, the Title "Family Sports" makes the Teaser even more believable. I am Out---->
I did not get it, but I liked it. Clever!
Loved this one! Great job grilledcheese. A little on the easy side, but that's good. Very well-written, a true poem. Great outside-the-box clues. A lot of thought went into this -- what percentage of teasers on this site can you say that about?
The last line gave it away. Well written and enjoyable.
//Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a QUESTION that NEEDS answering. //
This "riddle" would have been better if the question is clear.

The riddle should have asked us what to identify.
Back in 2013 I was content with it, but his time, like some of the others I did not know what we were supposed to be looking for. Usually the author will say "what is it?" or "who is it? or "what am I?"This time we were given nothing to know which way to go. As a teaser it was very good, except for that!'
What does "family sport" have to do with anything?
I love this riddle. It reads so nicely, almost poetically. It's just wonderful.
Fabulous. This should be in a published collection: a standard that everyone should read and enjoy. Amazingly good.
Didn't get this one at all. I was trying to figure out a sport. It made sense after I read the answer. A very good riddle after it made sense to me.
Fun and entertaining teaser. I did not get it. The title through me off - I do not see what the hands on a clock have to do with family sports.
This one's not very well thought out. Clock hands don't have significant enough ages to separate them under that premise and there's no reason for the second hand to be "number one." Given that the marathon is never ending, the second hand would therefore never win.
Well written & lots of fun, thanks!
