I Beam And Shine
Riddle
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.Riddle
I beam, I shine, I sparkle white
I'll brighten the gloom with my light
I'll mystify and enchant all
I'll bring out the best in you all
Goofy, bucked, green or gold
Young and charming, wise and old
Sly, cunning, empty some times
Mirthful, uplifting, within the lines
A fleeting glimpse or prolonged show
I'm sometimes sad, sometimes mean
Sometimes I'll say more than you know
Or betray what you think you've seen
Now, if you know me, tell me so
You have me too, you know!

Nice job. I especially liked the second stanza - it made me smile!
Nice job, I got it really wrong.
Thought of everything under the sun, but not a smile. Wow!

i guessed it might have been a smile because it fitted everything other than green and gold didnt get that part
I got it wrong too; I thought it was the moon.

Good one, I got it easily, but still good.
I can't believe I got it from the word bucked. That led to teeth, and it was only a smile away from the answer. Loved it. Thanks, Stormy
at first i thought moon then teeth ( due to "bucked") which led to smile. nicely written!
Not Bad

fun and entertaining
I got it, but thought I was probably wrong, because the Gold and green bit didn't fit....then I thought gold caps & bits of spinach embarrasingly stuck in your teeth at photo time.
Though some clues didn't fit, I said the Holy Bible. It can be very mysterious at times. Thanks, I liked this one.
I only got to teeth, but never went past that to smile. Good one!
Very nicely done. Just tricky enough And an excellent poem. I got the answer but at first thought it was teeth. Read again & obvious it was SMILE

Whar a beautiful teaser. I thought it was your mood, boy was I off. Smile is a perfect answer. Thanks for posting.
Very nice- I got it from the first part ,but was thrown by green and gold . Yeah, if you think it makes sense.
VERY nice!
Green???? I thought "eyes" was as good a solution as "a smile".
Great job, and smile.
i actually thought it was teeth not a smile
Like dudebomb and mband, I was thinking "eyes". But the answer does make me smile!
I thought a star... but the second paragraph made me think of ADJECTIVES. Good job!
i thought of a star but i LOVE the poem.
I liked it! But i thought it was teeth...
First thought? A Jack-o Lantern
Fun!
Fun!
soon as i read the first line i thought smile but as i read on i grew less confident that that was the answer. good one!
I thought it was a movie screen...LOL
So many things don't fit in this one! How can a smile be mean or sad? A smile is happy and pleasant. Did not like it at all.
This is a great riddle! I love how the first stanza makes it sound like it's very obviously going to be the moon.
@babe: Of course a smile can be sad or mean.
@babe: Of course a smile can be sad or mean.
I have proof this week that when you smile at someone it really makes two people happy!!
I guessed either /or star/ meteors. Never even thought of a smile (green teeth?)
I very much enjoyed this one. Bucked led me to the answer, but like many, I got a little confused by "green". I saw that someone else had suggested spinach stuck in one's teeth, but I can't say that I've seen that very often, if ever.
I understand the mean and sad part, not every smile is happy, they can be happy, sad, mean or evil you can say a lot without saying a word based on how you smile.
I didn't understand the green or gold parts but those have had plausible explanations attached to them by various commenters.

How did I actually get that?!
You can say all you want, but you will never convince me a smile can be mean or sad. My dictionary says a smile indicates amusement or pleasure. Those others are frowns, scowls, or grimaces. smile frown sad
Lovely riddle. I thought it was "teeth" but "smile" is so nice! Thanks for posting!
Managed to work it out despite the cryptic clues.
I'm with Babe on this one; sad-smile is only relevant in digital imagery?

I was thinking it was something celestial in stanza #1, but "bucked" snapped me to smile. I was a bit disappointed with rhyming all with all, and found the change in rhyming pattern in stanza #3 curious. Not sure if I like that or not.
Definitely some good imagery. There are many smiles that qualify as sad: nostalgic, wistful, resigned, etc.
There are many smiles that are mean: lecherous, brutish, derogatory, etc.
A smile is only part of a more complex facial expression.
