very cute and fun to do!
Not a mind melter, but give the coffee time to work. Well done.
I should have got the third one.. d'oh! A rune isn't a poem, it's a character (like a letter) in Old Norse and other ancient languages.
Terrible clues. A husk isn't a shuck either. Shuck is what you do to a husk ie: please shuck the corn.
Rune: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/rune
Shuck: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/shuck
Always good to check things out if you can before being critical.

Yeah, I, too, had a question about "rune" and "shuck," but a little investigation showed that though using them the way the puzzle-maker did is a little unusual, it is still legitimate. BTW, I wouldn't rely on Wiktionary for definitions.
Found this hard. Got shack and cannon and that's it.
Got lost on #1, but the others were fairly easy. Have a great day Ms Mich.
Great job - couldn't move beyond saga as the Norse poem. This is a bummer for me, since my ancestors were Scandinavians, and I try to be an expert on all things Norse, so take that as badge of honour that you stumped me!
Got the rest, but faltered on #1.

I found some of these to be a bit of a stretch for me (artillery piece / field) I must be in the wrong frame of mind. The concept was pulled off brilliantly, good job!
Did not bother to do it as I see I had already done it back in 2011. Are there no new ones?
Babe -
Most dictionaries disagree with you.

Fun puzzle ...
cnmne ALWAYS scores with creative ones. I gave it a top rating.
For those of you who missed it ... check the TOTD of yesterday (last dozen or so comments) for some VERY interesting language.
annoying? offensive?
Some of us get punished for it.

I should have hit the snooze button on my alarm this morning. Apparently I need more sleep.
Don't we all .....

My lads have done a very simple thing:
They created a piece of software that does random "screen caps" throughout the day.
A screen cap (screen capture) takes a digital "picture" of whatever is on your visual screen.
If you haven't noticed, each Braingle page has a "line" (bottom of your visual page) showing the number of individuals "Online Now".
"Online Now" means - for that very short moment-in-time you know the exact number of visitors (whether commenting, playing, or just cruisin'-and-snoozin')
The software then compiles that data into most any kind of report you want.
In this case we can know the "low", "high", and "average" number of visitors for any Braingle-day "moment" we wish (provided we have the screen-caps for that day).
We are still "compiling" for THIS day (July 15 in Western Hemisphere, North America).
This is "public domain" data. You can see it, we can see it, everyone can see it. And we all see the same thing ... so nobody is "cooking" numbers, inventing anything, or fudging anything.
It's as close to "fact" as you will ever hope to be.
I'll return later "today" ("today" being July 15 - daytime - North America) with more results and interps.
Later ... gators ....

Oh ... one more thing.
mepapa said he wanted OUT of LEB (League of Extraordinary Brainglers).
The rules stated - at the time he entered the contest - that membership was permanent unless ALL members agreed (unanimously) to eject any given member.
I therefore (operating under those rules) decline to eject mepapa.
I guess it's sorta like the La Brea tar pits.
Once you get in, you can't get ..........

But don't sweat it, mepapa ....
The day will come when you will be extraordinarily proud you were one of the first members of The League of Extraordinary Brainglers.
That is ... if Braingle survives it's bout with "denial of reality".

4/5 Not to bad considering I'm still half asleep.
Though I got them all eventually, I don't think Clue A was the first I solved for any of them.
Some of the clues were a bit obsolete but that made the puzzle a bit more challenging.

to HABS2933 - thank you (on behalf of cnmne) for the extensive comment.
My lads - who have done a bully job of "counting" the number of visits - now need a way to assess the "quality" of comments as well as their frequency.
Maybe the "number" of words would work. More words = better comments.
What do you think?
Since the "cruisers" (those visitors who look but don't comment) appear to seek the threads with longer and more frequent comments, then we need some way to measure quality.
Quality is often a "subjective" measure, so it's difficult to quantify for the statistician.
The lads are working on it.

Got to take exception to one of the items. A "rune" is not an Old Norse poem; that would be, perhaps, an "edda". A rune is a character from an old Norse alphabet, which might be used to write an Old Norse poem.
Had trouble with this for awhile. I finally got all of them except shuck. This was fun and really made me work out my brain today. Put it on my favorite list.
fun, challenging and entertaining teaser; it took quite a while but I got them all.
