Brain Teasers
Familiar Misquotes Series II
Whenever a phrase or sentence becomes part of the common language, there is a strong possibility that it will be quoted inaccurately.
Over the course of time, a letter gets shifted or a word is changed and forevermore the quotation becomes a cliche that nobody ever gets quite right.
Try to complete each proverbial cliche:
1.) "Play it, ______ ." - Humphrey Bogart, as Rick in 'Casablanca'.
2.) "Give him an inch, he'll take ______ ." - John Ray
3.) "Pride goeth before _______ ." - Proverbs

It also depends upon where in the movie, you are looking... Besides, I agree with you, but there are other times when the misquote is even *better still* Keep up the Awesome work on the teasers!
I would have never known.
Bogart only says that line twice, and it's almost identical both times "play it Sam", "I said play it Sam".
The female lead (I forget her name) said "play it for me Sam"
The female lead (I forget her name) said "play it for me Sam"
The female lead was the great Ingrid Bergman ... how can you forget her?
I just don't get it
Oy weh! I thought I KNEW all those! Very cute teaser!
I got them all wrong. I'm a victim of the "misquote" syndrome.
Great ones! I'd heard the Casablanca misquote before, but the others were new to me...and instructive and fun!
By the by...what's an "el".

Thanks for a good one! and I especially loved the comments!
Ingrid Bergman will long be remembered for her role in this movie.

I, too missed all three.
Got two. Never heard the John Ray one.
I don't understand the 'el' one either but nice teaser.
An ell is a measure of a length of rope. Not sure if he meant "ell" or just "el" though
I missed the heck out of those babies. I guess life is full of misquotes. Thanks for posting. It was a grand teaser.

I knew 2 of them, but the el got me. What the el ?
Didn't quite get it!!!
I've seen the first two somewhere before, but never knew (or know) el? Thanks
This was educational for me, thanks .
I think it may have been better if the misquote were given, then we were asked to provide the correct one:
"Play it again, Sam."
"Play it, ______."
"Give him and inch, he'll take a mile."
"Give him an inch, he'll take ________."
. . . and so on.

I was more familiar with the misquotes! By the way - an el is and elevated train (like taking the subway) :-)
Good teaser. I knew Casablanca and Proverbs but had no clue about the el. I love to learn something new every day. Thanks
This is more of a trivia teaser than a language teaser.
I got ALL 3 WRONG.
And I was soooo sure I was right.
