Brain Teasers
Spin a Thread
Riddle
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.Riddle
I'm quite a show
And people know;
Spinning threads
For capture of heads.
My limbs are many,
But I may be less than a penny.
One prick of me,
And in pain you will be.
I may fly and float as a baby,
And I swing when I'm older, maybe.
I can live in dark,
And have homes of bark.
I peel and fight,
Some people eat me in a bite.
What am I?
And people know;
Spinning threads
For capture of heads.
My limbs are many,
But I may be less than a penny.
One prick of me,
And in pain you will be.
I may fly and float as a baby,
And I swing when I'm older, maybe.
I can live in dark,
And have homes of bark.
I peel and fight,
Some people eat me in a bite.
What am I?
Answer
A spider. The first two lines refer to the movie "Charlotte's Web". The second two lines refer to the webs spun by spiders and the insects caught by the webs.
The third set of two lines refers to the number of appendages spiders have [eight] and the size of some spiders. The fourth set of two lines refers to the bite and venom of a spider.
The fifth set of two lines refers to a spider baby. When they first hatch, they shoot out a strand of silk as a "balloon" to help them float to their new home. Then, they "swing" to build their webs. The sixth set of two lines refers to the wolf spider and the trapdoor spider.
The final set of two lines is stating spiders molt and fight to defend themselves. It also states some people eat spiders.

Great teaser,
though I have never heard of anyone that EATS spiders!

Great one lucky! Not too easy either!
I like Teasers when their clever, the clues mislead, yet are appropriate for the riddle. Not just because I answered correctly, but the creator did not have to lie to make the point a fact
Who eats them?! (and not just to show-off, or something)
Can a prick be considered a bite?
I guess so, if you want to be really vague.
Very good teaser!

Very good teaser!
Using prick instead of bite was most likely poetic license; either way, it was really easy to guess the answer.
Good one for the very young.
Loved it except for the line about some people eating spiders. Uggghhh. I have an enormous spider that lives by my front door and spins a huge web every day, we think he is trying to trap the mailman. So far the mailman has won.
I forgot to say that it happens in the warm weather, not in winter.
Funny story Auntiesis.
Lucky, this is a great riddle teaser. I didn't get it right, but after reading the answer and your explanation, it all fits perfectly. Great Job, and I'm glad it was teaser of the day. Thanks for posting.

I guessed right, but didn't feel 100% confident because I didn't realize people ate spiders

very well written lucky!!! ... this one was a little too much on the easy side for me, but makes a great riddle-teaser for the younger ones on the site... great job!!!
I thought it was a pin
That is very clever! I thought it was a pin or something... I like the way you combined everything about spiders.
came up with 2 answers - spider and a plant -
where the seeds float around , have thorns that sting, fruits that people eat, housed within a bark...

Wasn't sure about my answer, but I did get it right...
Great Job

I thought of the answer pretty quickly. I think you did a very good job with both the teaser and the explanation. thanks.
I read the first ten lines of this teaser, thinking, "It's a spider. What else could it be?"
And then I got confused because I was wondering what kind of a spider lived in a tree... unless it was in a tree hollow... And there was also the part about people eating them... I was amazed people could eat spiders...
Thanks for the teaser. It was fun, as well as informative. ^_^

I thought it was a spider, but I wasn't sure. I didn't understand a lot of the clues until you explained them all.
Thanks!
Thanks!
It completely escaped me. The clues were tough.
Thanks for posting.

Did not care for it. The clues were all over the place.
I'm not crazy about spiders but I think their webs are so fascinating and intricate! Have a great weekend, friends!
Thanks for a good teaser!
Thanks for a good teaser!
it was okay, really easy thoigh. To all those commenting about people eating spiders, they eat them in some African and Middle Eastern countries. While you or I may find this gross, many people in other cultures would find your practice of eating cows or pigs disturbing (I know I do). To each their own.
Nice and easy. I must go and find some spiders and make myself a spider sandwich for lunch.
Hi Gayle,
I don't like spiders either, but cute quiz. Easy, but fun, except for the part about eating them.

I knew a kid who ate a Black Widow.
Nice teaser. Very easy, but that's okay because I'm not good at these things anyways.

I surprised myself; I don't often get riddles at all! And I won't let the majority calling it ez bother me one bit!
Not bad.
One problem: I hate spiders.
Can't stand them. Yuck. I hate bugs, insects, anything small that crawls, flies, spins, all that stuff.
Sick. Saw a little harmless spider once and nearly had a heart attack.
Don't get me started on bugs blown up in pictures. At school, our science
book has a picture of a blown up grasshopper. Ugh.
Other than that, great teaser. I like Charlotte's Web. Only bug movie I like, next to A Bug's Life and Kung-Fu Panda (mantis)

Glad I got this one. I don't like spiders to get the best of me.
I didn't know what was being referred to by "peel" but I got it.
Fun and easy for me-interesting explanations
Nice set of clues, though I got it when I read the title
nicely done, but a bit too easy
ANYONE who eats a spider id an arachnidiot
Spiders are not my favorite creatures. As long as they stay outdoors and away from me, I wish them well; but if one comes running toward me in my house, I smack him with my shoe!! (I apologize afterwards, but they get no second chances!)
Nicely written, however many spiders are non-venemous, and most hatchlings do not float/glide?
So the clues were a bit broad/cryptic!
