A word square is a predecessor to the modern crossword. In a word square, the same words can be read across and down. Here is an example using four-letter words:

The following clues correspond to a word square of five 5-letter words. The first clue corresponds to the first word, the second clue to the second, and so on. Can you solve it?
1. Tenth letter

In the English alphabet, the 10th letter is J. Is the tenth letter in the Greek alphabet K? That was confusing for a minute or so.
Yeah, the first clue had me confused also. I solved the rest of the clues and then KAPPA became evident.
Fun but really hard for me.
Good one.
Great puzzle! Making the first word obscure was crucial, since if it were obvious, it would have made the entire puzzle too easy by giving away the first letter of the other words.
