Brain Teasers
For Nine Months I Grow
Riddle
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.Riddle
For nine months I grow and grow.
Then finally my head will show
When I'm pulled from the bed I'm in
And someone gently cleans my skin.
Strong and healthy is my mood.
Soon I'll be into solid food.
Some like my smell, some say it's rude,
To most, I'm positively viewed.
So who or what am I?
Then finally my head will show
When I'm pulled from the bed I'm in
And someone gently cleans my skin.
Strong and healthy is my mood.
Soon I'll be into solid food.
Some like my smell, some say it's rude,
To most, I'm positively viewed.
So who or what am I?
Hint
A gardener might care for this like it's his baby.Answer
It's garlic. Garlic has a nine-month growing season. The bulb, or head, is lifted from the garden bed. The outer skin is cleaned, and after just a few days drying out, the garlic is ready to be used with other foods. People's reactions to garlic range from love to hate, but because of its many health benefits, it mostly has a positive approval rating.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

Really liked this teaser, of course, as you intended, the first thing that popped into my head was a baby. However, I knew it would not be that easy. Besides, no one thinks a baby is rude.
Though I love garlic, I was not aware it took 9 months to grow.

I, too thought it was baby, for a second.. But I never thought it was garlic. But then I only grow garlic chives. That takes a whole 9 months to completely take over your whole herb garden.
Nice riddle. Interesting and thoughtful.
And ... thanks to HABS and CatMom for your comments.
See ... it ain't so difficult.

I thought it was baby too, but nice trick!
I was thinking carrot or cabbage but I knew it didn't make sense so I just gave up and said it's gotta be one of those vegetables.
Great riddle, Riddler! Didn't get it, but I have a lovely crop of garlic half-way through its growing season so perhaps I should have thought!
The title was a bit bait-and-switch to me! I thought it was a riddle about a baby!
