Ones Out: Conflicting Countries
Group
These brain teasers rely on your ability to recognize groups of common attributes. For each of these puzzles you'll need to figure out why the words or letters are grouped as they are. Sometimes you will be asked to pick the odd-one-out or to place a new word into the correct group.Group
The following four words can be arranged into four groups of three words each. In each grouping, three words will share a common characteristic not shared by the fourth word.
Can you figure out these arrangements, what links each group, and why the missing word does not belong?
Canada
Chile
United Kingdom
United States

Canada
Chile
United Kingdom
United States
Answer
1) Canada does belong as it is the only country whose flag does not have blue in it.2) Chile does not fit as, unlike the other three countries, it is located in the Southern Hemisphere.
3) The United Kingdom does not fit as it is the only country not located within the Americas.
4) The United States does not fit as, unlike the others, it does not have an "official language".
While English is the primary language, and is spoken by the majority of people, it is not federally mandated.

United Kingdom does not fit as it does not have any major mountain ranges.
01. Chile is out because it is the only word with two syllables.
02. United Kingdom is out because it is the only phrase (words) with five syllables.
03. United States is out because it is the only word(s) pluralized.
04. Canada is out because it is the only word whose third letter is not an "i".
05. Canada is out because it is the only line shown with three syllables.
I could probably do more but I think you "get the pic" ... eh, whot?
(more whot) ... were you and the Eds somnolent (look it up) when you concocted, submitted, and got this approved?
You should correct this by removing the words "word" and substituting "country/countries" and then carefully excluding any remaining "exclusions".
You should do the correcting - if you wish - because it always looks better when the submitter does it.
If, however, you feel differently I will be happy to submit the correction.

Don't know how we could have missed this one ... perhaps most obvious !!!
06. Chile is the only country not in the Northern Hemisphere.
Also noticed that Chile is the only one geographically that is "longer" (longitudinally) than it is "wide" (latitudinally) but also noticed that the UK might be able to challenge that ....
...Should we take a vacay and go measure?
07. Also (maybe) ... the UK is the only one of the four that is an "island" .. although there are Brits who would vehemently deny such.

LittleGreenMan (or whoever you are), you do not need to be rude or condescending when leaving comments on teasers. It is insulting to both the Editors and the teaser submitter when you imply that there is some form of "in" between the submitter and the Editors. These type of comments only prove your username of "LittleGreenMan".
I suggest that the category for this teaser be changed from "Group" to "Trivia".
It seems there would be so many possible answers for this. However, my answers for Canada, Chile and UK all matched the given answer.
I said the U.S. borders an even number of countries. All others border an odd number. I could not think of anything better.
These are interesting puzzles! They must be a challenge to create.
