I sat to the left of Frank.
Peter sat to the right of the butcher.

Answer
SteveFrom the second statement, we know that "I" (you) sat to the left of Frank.
The fourth statement states that Steve sat across from Frank. This leaves Peter sitting across from you, and therefore to the right of Frank. Frank is therefore the butcher, from statement three.
If Steve isn't the baker (statement four), then Peter must be the baker, leaving Steve to be the grocer.

this teaser was pretty easy but it was good.
The solution is messed up. First of all, you
never specified that the four of you must have
sat two across from two. There is no reason why
the seating can't have been You-Frank-Peter on the one
side, with Steve across from Frank - this would make Frank the
butcher and Steve the grocer. But if the seating is
two across from two, then Peter must be sitting to Steve's right,
making Steve the butcher. At that point, either Peter or Frank
could be the grocer. So any one of the three could be the grocer,
depending on the seating arrangements.

Dewtell is right!
No, Dew is wrong, on this simple fact that he is trying to change the seating, in his line 2 "There is no reason why the seating can't have been You-Frank-Peter on the one side" It plaing states the seating arrangment. and lines 4/5 support the fact dew is trying to change the seatin by saying "depending on the seating arrangements." that is an obvious stament. So it was a good riddle easy but cute, but u must follow instructions.
