Brain Teasers
Broken Sleep
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
I went to visit my friend last week. He told me that after sunset he went to sleep. He then woke up and got out of bed at least 180 times before the sun rose again. However, he said that he always slept for at least 7 hours at a time. How can this be explained?
Answer
He lives at the South Pole where, during Winter, the sun doesn't rise for six months at a time.Hide Answer Show Answer

i never would have even thought it was that. i thought 180 could have been converted into 1.80. great job
Thought it was some crazy excercise regime.
εγώ αποκτώ αυτό τώρα. καλός κουταλάκι τσαγιού!!!!!!!
i thought it wuz cuz he slept thru the day and worked or soemthing at night...
I thought that maybe he was from another planet like venus or something. And some how he was able to survive living there. And the nights on that planet was long enough to allow him to get up so many times and still get enough sleep....But in the end I liked your answer better...
Umm, I didn't get it, but I like sailing wrestler's answer, I think that's his name, the comment above mine.
Can anyone read Adamant545's comment? anyone care to translate?
for some strange reason Adamants comment translates to "I acquire this now. good teaspoon of tea! !!!!!!"
what ever that is supposed to mean?

Mad-Ade how do u noe that? Anywayz I LOVED the teaser, but I got a another good answer, 'He was lieing!'............... lol :p
there could be many answers for this teaser. I thought he was sleep-walking everynight.
It is a strech to call winted at the south pole a "night"
It took me all day to finally understand this one. I agree with Ralph.
This one doesn't work since it says, "each night."
it does work. It says each night he gets up 180 times yet sleeps for 7 hours at a time. The night at the poles last 6 months or roughly 180 of our days. He sleeps for at least 7 hours at a time (his 'night' sleep)
Nice answer. I thought it was fairly obvious, but the stumbling point for many people is that it doesn't specify that he slept in between getting up each time.
I thought it was some sort of exercise routine too. I didn't get the connection between the 180 times and the 6 months!
Was your friend a scientist?
If he wasnt this is a really stupid teaser, because other than scientific research, antartica is uninhabited

If you ask someone from New Zealand they will find this dead easy because Antarctica is often in the news. Apart from New Zealand's own base, the US supplies its bases there via New Zealand.
The US has a base right at the South Pole so presumably that's where the man was living!
Actually it's not quite true that there are only scientists there. There are the military staff responsible for aircraft, a few writers and artists on special programmes, etc.
