I Love Horses
Many years ago, I roamed the land
I'll always lend the weak a helping hand
I am a soldier, know me by my arms
I trust the Lord to keep me from all harm
A title of respect precedes my name
I'd rather die than have to suffer shame
In stories and a game I live today
Do you know who I am? Guess away!

Answer
I am a knight."Many years ago, I roamed the land"
Knights were common in the Middle Ages, though knighthood is still being granted today.
"I'll always lend the weak a helping hand"
All knights had to obey the Code of Chivalry, which required knights to protect the weak.
"I am a soldier, know me by my arms"
In order to distinguish between friend and foe on the battlefield, knights' shields had brightly coloured designs on them. The practice of describing these designs is called "heraldry".
"I trust the Lord to keep me from all harm"
Knights were religious. Many fought in the Crusades, a series of wars between Christians and Muslims.
"A title of respect precedes my name"
Knights' names were preceded by "Sir".
"I'd rather die than have to suffer shame"
Knights were required to fear shame more than death.
"In stories and a game I live today"
There are stories about knights in literature. King Arthur is an example. Knights are also game pieces in chess.
"Do you know who I am? Guess away!"
Did you guess right?
The title is a clue, too. Knights were soldiers on horseback, so their horses must have meant a lot to them!
