Brain Teasers
What Fruits?
A different fruit (a total of twelve) is buried in every one of the following lines.
Example: A word is considered 'buried' when it can be read like P A R I S in the sentence "Grand-pa(pa ris)es at seven every morning."
Can you detect them?
Ah! If I get my good ship home
I'll find a tempting spot,
Where mayhap pleasant flowers will bloom,
And there I'll shape a charming cot.
Where bees sip nectar in each flower,
And Philomel on hawthorn rests,
I'll shape a rustic, sun-kissed bower -
A bower meet for angel guests.
Then she who lives and loves with me,
Sing our days of calm repose,
Sole monarch of the flowers will be -
For Myra is indeed a rose.

This has to be one of the best few around. Brain teasers should be based upon general knowledge like this, that anybody can solve if they think about it the right way.
I think this was really fun.. because, I was able to do it with my 8 yr old son.. he got them all but gourd. Need more like this for all age groups
This is one of my favorite teasers! Not only was it fun to read, but it was fun to look for the fruits. I love this idea! Do more like these!
Loved it!
haha this is a fun one!!
This is a great teaser! Anyone can get it if they work at it; it is great for all ages Although it isn't horribly original, it is a great teaser; you should be proud of it.
Excellent!
Loved it!

GRA(B A NANA) HA HA TEE-HEEE LOL
Really good. I liked how the fruits were so cleverly hidden in a well written poem.
Great teaser. A few of them made you think (olive and gourd) because they are not commonly thought of as fruits. Keep them coming. Well done.
Wow! terribly clever
very fun. i missed nectarine(duh)

Great Teaser Arsell. I just missed one fruit. Keep 'em coming.

This was REALLY fun! It was challenging in its own way to make us actually LOOK for the fruits hidden in the poem. It was a well written poem. And this teaser made you think of words in a whole new way! It took me a while to find them all. Once again, this was REALLY FUN!
I'll be the negative one. I truly didn't get it. Sorry
cool.
This was SOO MUCH FUN!!! And easy, I think that might be why I liked it... But it was very very well written... bravo, poet!!!
I got fig and date, then gave up...
Wish I hadn't, these were clever!

Really liked the puzzle. got stuck on olive, but the rest came pretty quickly. the poem is really very nice by itself too!
I loved it! I got them all, but it took me awhile and made me think. I've seen lots of teaseres like this with words hidden in sentences. But to put them in such a clever poem--good work! I agree with all the positive comments so far.
I did not get 1
Orange you glad this was an easy one...lol!
great teaser. i really had to look for a few of them.
I got most of them, but are olives really fruits? I never knew that.
fun, but kinda easy liked it!!! the second one was date, but I thought I saw POT too, but that's a weed, not a fruit.
is an olive a fruit cos i thougt it was a vegetable???
Creatove and wonderful.
I meant creative. sorry for the error.
I DIDNT GET IT!
VERY WELL WRITTEN.
I DON'T BELIEVE AN OLIVE IS A FRUIT, UNLESS YOU INCLUDE THE BROAD DEFINITION OF "FRUIT," a product of outgrowth.
GOOD JOB NON-THE-LESS

i agree with oddry
Great teaser, I put "hip" for the first one (like rose hip) but got the rest. Olive & gourd are a surprise, but you learn something new everyday
Really great teaser! It's going on my favorites. At first I didn't get any, but as soon as I looked at the answer for the first one I got the hang of it.
The part of the plant that holds the seed is the fruit of the plant (when you are naming parts such as stem, root, etc.) Vegetables can be any part of the plant that we eat--such as leaves (lettuce and spinach), stems (celery), flowers (broccoli), roots(carrots) and fruits. Some fruits are usually called vegetables (tomatoes. squash), but they are still the fruit of the plant. At least that's what the school science books say. So I guess it's a matter of which definition you are using.
got them all except gourd
MAN! I suck at these! I only got orange. pooey on toast! haha.
That was a lot of fun! I actually got all of them, which doesn't happen very often!
I have never done one of these! I didn't understand what I had to do until I saw the answere. Now I know for next time. Hopefully I will do better!
nice!!! at least i get thi sone!!
This was great fun. Got me to think, which isn't easy to do on a Monday morning.... Looking forward to more of these fun ones, keep 'em coming
Excellent, excellent teaser!!!
I agree with thimblenoggin: A gourd is NOT a fruit. That one had me stumped for a few seconds. Other than that, it was fun. I actually might think about sharing this one with my friend. I will let you know.
I am extremely impressed. I enjoy teasers, difficult or easy, but this was so much more. The poem itself was a work of art. As an avid reader and writer of poetry, I am blown away. And the teaser inserted inside was genius. This is my first "favorite." Thank you. (and for some reason I couldn't fina raisin!)
I enjoyed this one. Got them all fairly quickly but the gourd did stump me!!
Gourd is a pumpkin type thing where lots of times birds will make houses
A gourd contains the seeds. Therefore, it is the fruit of the plant.
Finally got them all, though gourd gave me a hard time.
Excellent. I got them all, though I wasn't sure that gourd was a fruit.
Thank you coolest
Very nicely done!! I had fun with it. First read-through, I was only looking for fruits, and found them all really easily .. although, I was surprised by gourd, but figured it very well could be a fruit, so I just went with it. And it was it!
Then I read the poem for poetry's sake. Very neat, cute, silly, amusing.

Gourd is most definately a fruit.. I should know I work in citrus.. + like a tom. which is considered a fruit.. so is a Olive.. Nice
one Ares. you keep me thinking all of the time..

Missed Gourd, good qiuz
That was a great teaser!
This was a fantastic teaser. I only got 2. Very good though.
I agree with nearly everyone. This was a lot of fun to solve and, if there were no fruits to search for, it would be a nice poem. !!!
easy but fun
Very well done. I think I'd like to see more like these. Cheers
Fun fun fun! Thanks for posting!
Beautiful poem!
Interesting,easy,and fruity.
could not get nectarine for some reason-had fun with it, though-and I think the author would enjoy being a fly on the wall listening to people try to sound these out!
Fun to work on. First saw this one in "Brainteasers and Mindbenders" in 1993.
I love these - I did this puzzle yesterday. I'd like to see more of these! Thanks!
Good teaser. I missed two. At the top of the page it says "Comments." It does not say good comments only and so on yesterdays teaser I made a comment that I thought it was boring. I did not say that I was bored, but that the teaser to me was boring. I was attacked for saying it, by someone whose handle is lukasiwicz.
In my 93 years of living I have learned that people attack you because it makes them feel better about themselves. Therefore In my opinion I did something good by making him or her feel better about them selves and will consider that my good deed for the day. That is my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Well, Babe, when you say something is boring, as far as I'm concerned what you're really saying is that it bores YOU, unless you are arrogant enough to suppose that it also bores everyone else. Once again, my comment is that boredom comes from within, and, to me, suggests a deficiency of inner resources. Take that for what it's worth.
As I found no real thinking involved, I understood Babe's opinion (to which Babe is certainly entitled). As I proceeded letter by letter, I maintained a mild sense of anticipation wondering if there would be a fruit I never heard of. Ultimately I highly admire the way fruits are creatively weaved into a well written poem, in lieu of its strength as a teaser.
I still love this teaser - don't remember it from a few years ago. I got them all and found it fun and challenging to do so. Happy Mother's Day if you celebrate it!
Is "raisin" really a fruit? Raisins don't grow on vines, grapes do. If being made out of a fruit makes raisins fruit, that would make wine a fruit.
It's been six years since I last commented, which means it was 'new' to me! I worked harder this time, I guess, and got them all-
Re: if a raisin is a fruit from above comment, yes! Dried fruit is definitely a fruit, regardless (unlike wine, which is only made with fruit).

Fun, easy and entertaining teaser. I got all of them very quickly.
Oh My Gourd. Can't believe I missed gourd.
It's not made by you. I have seen this in a British book of puzzles.
Though good thing you posted it.
