Brain Teasers
RE-Words
In English, "re" is a prefix usually meaning "again", such as in "rebuild" (build again). However, there are many words starting with "re" which have a totally different meaning without the "re".
You will be given two definitions, one for a word starting with "re", and one for the remaining word without the "re" (either definition could be given first).
Example: vehicle wheel / cease employment
Answer: tire / retire
1. newspaper employee / hotel employee
2. one who belongs / bring past event to mind
3. unit of money / not long ago
4. money for the poor / kingdoms
5. income / event location
6. couple / fix
7. arrived at / felt long-term pain
8. at ease / cause sharp pain

nice! this was fun, and not giving the words in a particular order added a little extra puzzle.
It is stated that one word has the re and the other does not, and yet your example shows both words with the re. That is a bit confusing, at least for me.
Otherwise it was good and I only got a few because of the example. Sorry!

Babe, the instructions clearly state that one of the paired words will START with "re-" and the other one won't, and in the example that is in fact the case: tire / retire. That both of those words end with "re" is irrelevant, and should not have fhrown you off.
Another great one Marc. Got all of them except cent/recent. I was looking for a unit of currency that started with 're'. Cent did not even occur to me (duh). I blame it on the abolishment of the penny. Don't even think about it any more.
excellent!
Not having them in order probably threw me off and I found it harder than the rating. (I only got 2,3, & 6). Good one!
Babe, you misread it. The "re" in question was only at the beginning of the word tire - the answers were tire and REtire. Maybe confusing, but not incorrect.
I LOVED this puzzle - clever and fun! thanks for posting!

Lucasiwicz explained it better than I did - thanks
I have to admit I missed # 8, but the rest of them were fairly easy. This was really a fun one.

Thanks Marc, that was fun! Your instructions & example were very clear to me btw.
Would love to see some more of these, well done!

I got every one except #5, which I probably should have been able to get.
Thank-you for your comments!

This is terrific. It seems they are all very easy, except for the one or two you don't get, and each person misses a different one or two. That says to me its a perfect teaser.
Fun, challenging and entertaining teaser; took a few minutes but got them all.
Fun! Fun! Fun!
I loved this teaser. Word puzzlers are my cup of tea. It had just the right amount of difficulty to make it challenging enough to wake up the brain cells. It took me a bit, but I finally got them all.
Nice! I have been known to make this comment after seeing a common sign, "What is 'strooming' and why would I do it again?" :-)
Here are a few more for you next one: create, lax, sign, peat.
